PT - Kids Starting Seeds at Vivid Farms

Thematic: Growing Your Own Food

As part of the PLAYFOOD activities on “Growing Your Own Food”, primary school children visited Vivid Farms in Portugal for a hands-on learning experience in nature. Guided by the facilitators Raiza Rezende, Rodrigo Borralho e Ana Carvalho, the session introduced children to the basics of food production and regenerative agriculture, during a farm visit and a planting activity. Children first worked in the greenhouse where they planted seedlings direclty by engaging with soil, learning about seed types, how to plant it, how to take care of it, how does a seed sprout, etc. After the kids went on a farm tour encouraging curiosity and active participation as they explored gardens, trees, animals and learned about ecology, biology, soil health and ecosystems.

The day also included outdoor playtime and the opportunity to taste fresh produce directly from the gardens, reinforcing the joy and value of growing food locally.
