Thematic: Growing Your Own Food

As part of the PLAYFOOD thematic focus on “Growing Your Own Food” (GYOF), a community session was organised at EB Casével School in Portugal, bringing together families, teachers, and the project team to reflect on how food production connects to both human wellbeing and planetary health. The session created a welcoming space for dialogue, encouraging participants to share experiences and explore the value of growing food at home and in school environments.

During the discussion, facilitators Raiza Rezende and Sonia Torres introduced simple and accessible ways for families to begin their own food-growing journey. They presented microgreens as an easy first step, demonstrating how even small indoor spaces can support nutritious food production. It's also a great activity to do with the kids. The families got to try microgreens first-hand with healthy snacks: sourdhough bread, hummus, guacamole and a diverse selection of microgreens - rocket, alfafa, broccoli, purple cabbage and radish. The session aimed to empower families to take an active role in building healthier food habits and strengthening their connection with nature.
