Thematic: Local and Seasonal Eating

The final PLAYFOOD activity in Portugal was implemented under the project’s second thematic area, Local and Seasonal Eating, and was combined with the school’s end-of-year celebration at Vivid Farms. The event brought together children, families, teachers, and project partners to celebrate healthy eating, seasonal food, and community engagement. During the first part, children participated in interactive educational games facilitated by ProVeg International and RHEA, encouraging them to learn about local and seasonal eating.

As parents joined the event for the second part, families took part in a live showcooking session led by ProVeg International, where they learned to prepare two simple summer salad recipes using fresh produce harvested from the Vivid Farms garden. The activity demonstrated practical and accessible ways to incorporate local and seasonal ingredients into everyday meals, while encouraging children and parents to cook, taste, and learn together.

The event concluded with the school's end-of-year celebration, during which the children performed a dance and received their diplomas. Families then gathered around a shared community table featuring healthy dishes prepared and brought by the parents, in line with the project's principles of nutritious and sustainable food. This closing moment strengthened the sense of community, celebrated the achievements of the children throughout the year, and reinforced the importance of healthy eating as a shared family and community experience.
