The fourth discussion panel was implemented under the project’s second thematic area, Local and Seasonal Eating, focusing on healthy nutrition and sustainable food consumption through the use of local and seasonal ingredients. The activity aimed to raise awareness among children and parents about the importance of everyday dietary choices and encourage healthier, more sustainable eating habits through an interactive, family-centred Healthy Masterclass. Led by chef Angelos Chatzistylis, owner of the restaurant SPONDI, parents and children prepared simple sweet and savoury recipes while discovering practical ways to incorporate fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients into everyday family meals.
Alongside the cooking activities, nutritionist and PLAYFOOD collaborator Eirini Tsirimokou, co-founder of RHEA, delivered a presentation on the nutritional, environmental, and social benefits of choosing seasonal and local foods. Throughout the workshop, participants explored the links between food choices, health, sustainability, and local food production, while the collaborative cooking experience promoted intergenerational learning, teamwork, creativity, and hands-on education.
An important added value of the event was the participation of PLAYFOOD partners from Belgium and Portugal, who engaged with families and contributed to evaluating the final cooking creations, reinforcing the initiative’s European and intercultural dimension. The event concluded with an open discussion, where participants reflected on healthy eating and sustainable food choices, encouraging children and parents to apply the knowledge and practices gained in their daily lives.
